Aunt Lil's Sunshine Cake

In honor of my daughter's birthday this week here is a traditional made-from-scratch angel food birthday cake.
Cookie recipies will resume next week.

6 large eggs - separate whites from yolks, save 2 egg whites for frosting

¾ cup sugar - beat with 4 egg whites until stiff

Beat egg yolks with
¾ cup sugar
½ cup grapefruit juice

Sift (twice)
1½ cup cake flour and
1 teaspoon baking powder

Fold
4 tablespoons of sifted flour/powder mixture into egg whites

Add remaining flour to egg yolks
along with
½ teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon vanilla
and mix well

Then fold both mixtures together and
Bake in an angel food cake pan

Bake at 300° F for 1 hour.

Grandma Hop's Sugar Cookies

A cake-like cookie.

2 cups sugar
½ tsp salt
½ tsp nutmeg
1 cup margarine
2 eggs
1 cup buttermilk
4 cups sifted flour
2 tsp baking soda

Mix well and drop a tablespoon onto cookie pan.
Sprinkle with a little sugar.
You may garnish the top with a couple raisins.
Bake at 400° F for 12 minutes.

My Mom used to make smaller cookies using a teaspoon to measure the dough. With the smaller measure this recipe makes about 6 dozen cookies.
